Summary
The Benefits Lead is responsible for the operational delivery, and administration of the organization's employee benefits programs. This includes health and welfare plans, retirement savings, leaves of
absence, wellness programs, and other ancillary benefits. The ideal candidate is both strategic and detail oriented, with a deep understanding of compliance, vendor management, and employee experience.
Responsibilities
• Assist with the design, implementation, communication, and administration of benefit plans that align with company goals and employee needs.
• Extensive knowledge of state PTO, Sick and leave of absence programs, including CFRA, PDL, and FMLA, ensuring compliance with complex state regulations and seamless employee support.
• Manage timely payment of benefits-related invoices (e.g., insurance premiums, vendor services) to ensure uninterrupted employee coverage and maintain positive vendor relationships.
• Assist with annual benefits renewal process, including plan analysis, broker/vendor collaboration, budgeting, and open enrollment execution.
• Oversee day-to-day benefit operations, including escalated employee inquiries, eligibility issues, and complex claims support.
• Partner with HRIS/Payroll teams to ensure accurate benefit deductions, reporting, and system integrations.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and state leave laws).
• Serve as a liaison for benefits vendors and brokers, ensuring service levels are met and contracts are managed effectively.
• Lead benefits-related audits and filings (e.g., 5500s, nondiscrimination testing, ACA reporting).
• Drive employee education and engagement around benefit offerings through clear communication, tools, and resources.
• Monitor market trends and analyze benchmarking data to evaluate competitiveness and recommend plan improvements.
• Support M&A or organizational change activities related to benefits integration, harmonization, or transition.
• Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, and Risk on benefit-related matters.
• Demonstrate excellent guest service to internal team members and patients.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or HR certification (CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP/SC) a plus.
• 8-10 years of experience in benefits administration or total rewards, including at least 2 years in a lead or managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. benefits regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong project management and vendor management experience.
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on employee experience and service.
• Proficiency in HRIS systems (Workday, ADP, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working in a high-growth or multi-state organization, preferred.
• Driven by a passion for correcting legacy issues, with a strong track record of identifying and resolving compliance gaps, process inefficiencies, and past administrative errors to improve accuracy and employee experience.
• Proven ability to move quickly and execute in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
• Data-driven mindset with the ability to use analytics to inform decisions.

Physical Demands
• Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker must have close
visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Ability to lift to 15 lbs. independently not to exceed 50 lbs. without help.
