Summary

The Associate Vice-President (AVP) of Business Unit Compliance will be responsible for oversight, implementation, enforcing policies, programs, and practices to ensure the company's business unit(s) comply with federal, state and/or local regulations as they relate to Compliance and Regulatory matters. This leader provides effective leadership, advice, and counsel to the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) as well as the business unit executive and leadership teams on matters of corporate compliance and ethical business practices. This leader develops and executes the strategy for managing and reporting all compliance and regulatory issues throughout the business units, to ensure the company's culture of compliance is maintained. It is imperative that AVP, Business Unit Compliance, can communicate effectively and efficiently and demonstrate superior people skills. Other duties as assigned.


Essentials Duties & Responsibilities (Include but no limited to)

  • Assist the CCO in setting and executing the compliance strategy for company business units, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides input and direction (working with the Chief Compliance Officer) and leadership for business units' ethics and compliance programs, including developing, designing, and implementing the business unit's annual compliance plans.
  • Maintains policies and procedures that ensure the business units comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. These policies and procedures must be regularly updated to reflect changes in laws and regulations.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Compliance Officer, develops policies, procedures and programs that have significant impact upon the organization and encourages all workers, providers, and leaders to report deviations from the compliance program or code of conduct and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation.
  • Manages and mentors a team through onboarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains exceptional employee morale and motivation.
  • Interacts with senior leadership regularly to ensure an ongoing understanding of key objectives.
  • Measures and continually improve business units' compliance program, policies, code of conduct, processes, and results.
  • Sets and manages to the applicable financial, operational, and quality objectives as related to the business units' compliance programs.
  • Designs, coordinates, and oversees business unit compliance education and training with a goal of consistent and constant improvement of performance.
  • Partners with and influences both peer and senior leaders to identify, manage, and mitigate compliance risks in operational areas, and provide creative and well-informed solutions.
  • Collaborates with other corporate/operational functions, such as internal audit, legal, finance/accounting, revenue cycle, human resources, and business units to direct business unit compliance activities to appropriate channels.
  • Performs as an idea generator, working with others as a thought leader and subject-matter expert to help brainstorm new processes and solutions to maintain compliance within all business units.
  • Performs and facilitates special projects assigned by the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Performs all tasks in observance of business units' brand and strategy and adheres to their core values and service goals.
  • Manages business units' risk management as it relates to regulatory compliance, including identifying, assessing, and managing risks across the business units to support the achievement of goals and objectives while minimizing potential negative impacts.
  • Investigate and respond to compliance and privacy incidents, such as data breaches or violations of laws and regulations. This includes managing a team of investigators and coordinating with other departments and external stakeholders, such as regulators and law enforcement.
  • Manages and promotes the business units' compliance hotline and reporting systems.
  • Oversees and manages business units conflict of interest programs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulators and industry associations. This includes staying up to date on new laws and regulations and industry's best practices.
  • Partners and collaborates with legal and compliance/risk teams across the private equity sponsor portfolio, sharing and learning best practices and navigating complex relationships and regulations.
  • Demonstrate excellent guest service to internal team members and patients.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in arts/sciences (BA/BS), Masters preferred
  • JD from an accredited law school (preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate compliance
  • Experience in compliance leadership role within a healthcare or life sciences entity (value-based care experience preferred)
  • Hold a CHC certification, with CHPC or CCEP preferred
  • Exceptional independent judgment
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, direct environment. The ideal candidate must be willing to "roll up their sleeves" when needed while being a quick study with the ability to manage complex matters with multiple initiatives going on simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
