Summary

Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons under the direction of a registered nurse, a licensed physician, a licensed osteopathic physician or a licensed podiatric physician. Responsible for ensuring patient care is delivered safely, effectively and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interviews patient to determine medical problem/condition and documents correctly in chart for physician.
  • Obtains and records patient's vital signs and weight.
  • Assists physician with patient examination as needed.
  • Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
  • Documents accurately services performed for billing purposes.
  • Dresses wounds and gives enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and massages.
  • Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles.
  • Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to provider.
  • Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients' charts.
  • Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Sterilizes equipment and supplies.
  • Keeps physician's schedule full/does not block without approval of Mgr.
  • Responds to patient telephone inquiries in timely manner by evaluating and responding to the patient's problems and questions.
  • Follows up with patients on lab results, including the scheduling of any additional tests.
  • Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
  • Communication standards (Ask Me 3, etc.) for patients implemented and documented accurately.
  • May be responsible for onboard training of new employees and implementation of Care Team activities.
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality and is flexible as schedule may change and early/late hours may be required.
  • Provides an exemplary patient experience for all patients.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills. Athena knowledge preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current LPN License required; CPR/BSL certification required

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
